Can the sun harm you in early spring? The opinion of the Shiseido expert
The sun is not “baking” yet – is it so dangerous? The answer is “yes.”
What is the danger of the spring sun for the skin
There are 2 types of ultraviolet rays: UV-A (ultraviolet ray A) and UV-B (ultraviolet ray B).
UV-B is called "ultraviolet rays of rest", they are most common in the middle of summer. Their peculiarity is that they mainly damage the upper layer of the skin, causing the appearance of freckles and age spots.UV‐A is "everyday ultraviolet rays". They have the longest wavelength and are able to penetrate into the deep layers of the skin. They not only darken the skin, but also destroy fibroblasts, which are a source of elasticity and elasticity.
The UV-A level has been rising sharply since April and remains at about the same level all summer. Therefore, if you do not apply the products from early spring, and remember about them only in June, your skin will be completely defenseless for several months.
Sunscreens against UV-A rays - the main rules
There are four rules recommended by Japanese cosmetologists that will help protect the skin from the sun.
1. Apply sun protection in any weather
If the weather is cloudy outside, this does not mean that you can forget about the sun cream. On cloudy days, sunlight is weak and the amount of ultraviolet rays seems small. In fact, it accounts for more than 60% of the UV rays of a sunny day. And on a rainy day – about 20%! That is, in any case, the sun is there, so it is easier to follow a single rule – to protect the skin from ultraviolet rays, regardless of the weather.
By the way, if you are not going to go outside, you can still suffer from UV-A rays, which cause pigmentation and loss of skin elasticity. They easily enter the room through the window glass, so protection is also needed indoors and in transport.
2. The PA value plays an important role
Ms. Yoshikawa, an expert at the Shiseido brand, notes that when choosing a sunscreen, many pay attention only to the SPF value – for example, 30 or 50. However, the "PA value" is also very important! It shows the degree of protection from UV-A, everyday ultraviolet rays.
There are 4 degrees of such protection:
PA+...– there is a preventive effect of UV-A
PA++... – the preventive effect of UV-A is significant
PA+++... – the preventive effect of UV-A is very significant
PA++++... – the preventive effect of UV-A is extremely high
3. Defend yourself – so completely
If you apply sunscreen but leave unprotected areas, ultraviolet rays can harm you.
Pay attention to the following areas:
forehead under bangs
between eyebrows
ears
face contour line
nose folds
neck front and back
knees front and back
hands and feet
armpits
sides
4. Caring not only from the outside, but also from the inside
Protection from UV rays with sunscreens is the first thing that comes to mind. But it is important not to forget about the support of your body from the inside. Ms. Yoshikawa recommends using additional protection in the form of complex dietary supplements.
The composition for this must include:
Vitamin A, which promotes metabolism and melanin excretion.
Vitamin C - it restores skin damaged by ultraviolet rays.
Astaxanthin has antioxidant properties against oxidation caused by UV rays. Its antioxidant power is extremely strong, it is about 1000 times higher than vitamin E.
