Memories of a Japanese garden: osmanthus in cosmetology and perfumery
You only need to inhale once to fall in love with the aroma of a gentle fairy tale.
Osmanthus - what is it?
This plant is called differently everywhere. In China it is known as "gui hua", in Japan - "mokusei", in other countries - "tea olive". In encyclopedias it is described as Osmanthus fragrans, that is, “fragrant osmanthus.”Osmanthus is a member of the olive family and grows as a bush or tree that resembles an olive tree, although the aroma of osmanthus flowers is reminiscent of peach or apricot. In nature, there are more than 30 species of this plant, and each has its own characteristics. If osmanthus is given a chance to stretch to its full height, it will reach a height of 12 meters: consider it a high-rise building.
Asia is considered the homeland of osmanthus; it is found in Japan, China, India, Thailand and occasionally in the Krasnodar Territory.
Osmanthus in cosmetology and perfumery
Osmanthus fruits are not that valuable; the inflorescences are another matter. They are used in cooking, perfumery, medicine and, of course, cosmetology.
Osmanthus in cosmetology
In the beauty industry, essential oil is made from osmanthus, which then becomes part of skincare products: creams, serums, gels and masks.“Tea olive” soothes, rejuvenates and refreshes the skin, and also promotes the healing of wounds and the elimination of imperfections (especially dark circles under the eyes and acne). In general, osmanthus is an indispensable ingredient in cosmetics intended for “tired” and problematic skin.
The regenerating properties of the plant restore collagen structures in cells, thanks to which products containing osmanthus can smooth out wrinkles and push aging skin to start self-healing processes.
Osmanthus in perfumery
The aroma of osmanthus is a collection of soft floral and fruity (peach-apricot) notes. Plant extracts are widely used in the perfume industry, but these are quite expensive raw materials on the market, since the supply volume of osmanthus depends on the season.Absolute oil (a liquid with a high concentration of the active element) is obtained from the fragrant, cream-colored inflorescences and is considered one of the most valuable ingredients in perfume compositions. Experts call osmanthus “a memory of a Japanese garden.”
Perfume oil SHISEIDO Maquillage Dramatic Mood Potion
Beauty should be comfortable, that’s what perfume in oil form is for. According to Japanese tradition, fragrances should be unobtrusive, because in Asia they avoid sharp, flashy odors and try to minimize the application of perfume.Concentrated oil Dramatic Mood Potion allows you to dose the aroma, leaving behind a pleasant trail, and not a “bright flash”. There is no need to prolong the scent as it lasts on the skin for about 4 hours.
The composition consists of fruity and floral notes. Top notes include bergamot, citrus, apple, raspberry, patchouli and jasmine. The “heart” of the perfume oil contains osmanthus, violet, Bulgarian rose and lily of the valley. And in the drydown remain sandalwood, cedar, iris, amber, saffron and vanilla.
Body cream with horse oil and osmanthus aroma Lishan Skin Cream
Lishan Skin Cream has an amazing composition - it includes horse oil, animal placenta extract and centella asiatica extract (CICA).All these ingredients restore water and lipid balance, prevent roughness and are suitable for nourishing the deep layers of the skin of the body and hands. The product is perfectly absorbed without leaving behind a “mask effect” or stickiness.
Two more ingredients that make themselves known immediately after opening are fragrant honey and rich osmanthus: the first protects the skin from moisture loss, and the second gives the cream an exquisite floral and fruity aroma.
