Makanai produces organic cosmetics. It contains only natural ingredients: handmade Japanese washi paper, konnyaku tubers, rice bran, silkworm cocoons, vegetable oils and extracts.
It all started at the Yoshitaka factory, which produced gold leaf in the city of Kanazawa. The company's workers protected the skin of their hands with homemade masks made from rice bran, green tea, washi paper and tiny scraps of gold sheets.
Subsequently, these centuries-old skin care traditions were embodied in Makanai cosmetic products. The brand name literally translates as “wisdom from the workplace.”
